Town Hall will join local residents for a community meeting Feb. 4 to discuss the county library's preliminary recommendation to close Garner's popular branch if deep budget cuts are needed.
The meeting is slated for 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church at 503 Lakeside Drive.
Talk of closing Southeast Regional Library has shocked and appalled many local residents. Petitions to keep the library have sprouted online, on Facebook and throughout the community.
Local officials are speaking out about the proposal as well.
"I am flabbergasted by the news that the county is talking about possibly closing that library," said Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams.
Williams has been flooded by emails and calls since The Garner Citizen first reported on the issue last week.
"The public outcry on this has been greater than anything I've seen in my 25 years of service in Garner," he said.
